In Alaska, bars are offering free pregnancy test kits in bathrooms
We know that greater transparency is a growing trend, but is this going one step too far? Turns out that the US state of Alaska as one of the country's highest rates of fetal alcohol syndrome, a condition in a child that results from alcohol exposure during the mother's pregnancy. As a way of combatting this, the government is supporting an initiative by the nonprofit Healthy Brains for Children which is installing pregnancy test kit vending machines in almost two dozen bars around the state. What makes this a trend is the fact that Minnesota is also testing doing it, and other states are eagerly watching the results. The theory is that women who suspect they might be pregnant will test themselves in the bar bathroom before heading out and ordering a drink. If you can buy condoms in a bar bathroom, why not a pregnancy test?
