Forget fingers: criminals are now being identified by footprints
Fingerprints have long been associated with crime investigations. Now shoeprints are making their way into the crime-fighters toolkit with a new technology that can tell how people walk. Of course, many people share shoe brands and models, but interestingly, individuals can be identified based on the weight distribution that shows in their footprints. At Colindale police station in London, a new footprint scanner is now able to check possible perpetrators footprints against a database the within a matter of hours. The technology has already won fans helping catch several dozen burglars. Success means that the scanners will soon handed to police stations throughout the U.K., and given their effectiveness, to cops in countries worldwide. Watch where you step.
