Trend alert: Goats are replacing lawn mowers to cut the grass
Seattle-Tacoma International and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International airports have both employed about 100 sheep to graze their vast lawns. And the city of Paris has replaced lawnmowers with sheep in some of its public parks. Now Chicago's O'Hare International Airport hired about 25 goats to graze on the grass and keep it trimmed. Starting next month, the goat herd will roam about 120 acres of airport land, clearing about 250 square feet of grassland per day. The program will reduce the need for traditional lawnmowers, provide an alternative to toxic herbicides, and naturally recycle nutrients as fertilizer.
