NYCs Guggenheim debuts the future of audio tours with its new museum app
The iconic Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Guggenheim Museum has long been a leader when it comes to contemporary art. Now it is at the forefront of another revolution: one that does away with the old-style plastic audio guide phones in favor of a free, downloadable app that offers a rich multimedia experience of the museum, its collections, and its architecture. The app provides a wealth of materials, including building and collection guides in five languages, and information on more than 1,200 works in the museum's collection. Even better, it has both audio and video and lots of bells and whistles including kids guides for select exhibitions and verbal imaging for visitors who are blind or have low vision. Is this the future of museum audio guides? We think so.
