Tesco opening free community meeting rooms in their stores
Tesco, one of the world's largest retailers, is revamping how it uses space in its largest stores, building a community room into its new Tesco Extra in Watford, England. As shopping goes online, brick-and-mortar retailers are looking to attract customers in ways that Internet businesses can't compete. Turning shopping into an even more entertaining experience is one of those ways. Opening a section of the store to attract community is another. Tesco envisions their community room being used for yoga classes, music lessons, and birthday parties. The room will be available for local people to book free of charge through the day, and will include tea and coffee-making facilities. The community room is similar to initiatives that Tesco already runs in some of its stores in Asia, such as its Tesco Lotus business in Thailand. However, this is the first time one has been introduced to a UK store.
