Urban bicycling trend grows with launch of NYC bike share program
New York's Citi Bike is launching with 6,000 bikes and 330 docking stations now being spread across Manhattan and Brooklyn. The city is the latest in a long line of municipalities to provide bikes for its citizens. Similar services have been going for years in Boston, Washington, D.C, and numerous European cities, to name just a few. The bicycles are also part of a trend headed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg towards nudging New Yorkers toward healthier lifestyles by banning giant-sized sugary drinks and indoor cigarette, and posting calorie counts on restaurant menus.
