What's next after cat cafes? Owl cafes, of course!
Regular readers are aware of the emergence of cat cafes in Japan, England and elsewhere, where patrons are surrounded by dozens of felines. Now, in Tokyo and beyond, several cafes have opened that are chock full of owls. Known locally as "fukurou cafes," there are at least a half-dozen in Japan. Some allow patrons to hold the birds, while others keep them inside cages. Some animal rights people are concerned about this fad, especially when it comes to keeping wild nocturnal animals in a lighted restaurant. In our experience, when a fad like this gets going, it keeps going, so that there will probably be many more animal-themed cafes opening in the next few years. Question is, what animal will be next? What do you think?
