Will scientists use mosquitoes to administer vaccines?
Biotechnology company Provita Pharmaceuticals is working on a project to use mosquitoes as a "flying syringes" to deliver vaccines. The project is in its early stages, but the company has already given a presentation to the United States Food and Drug Adminstration and submitted a grant proposal to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The company hopes to genetically engineer mosquitoes so they can produce and deliver a vaccine for West Nile Virus.
