Emirates tests windowless passenger planes in First Class
Emirates is testing virtual windows in the first-class cabin of their newest Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. Instead of windows, external fiber-optic cameras stream images to virtual windows, offering high-quality images of the outside. Windowless cabins would give the aircraft more structural integrity while making it lighter, allowing for faster flights and improved fuel efficiency. But is it better for passengers? While some first-class Emirates passengers already have the chance to try out the virtual windows, it’s likely to be a while before an entirely windowless aircraft — one looking a lot like a cargo plane from the outside — takes off with hundreds of passengers inside.
