Shopping malls creating dedicated waiting rooms for rideshare taxis
The success of rideshare taxi companies is changing the retail landscape. In the USA, Uber and Westfield shopping centers have teamed up to offer designated waiting areas for ride-share users at all 33 of Westfield’s locations in the United States. The drop-off and pick-up locations will appear on Uber’s app, allowing users of the service to easily see where their driver will be able to meet them after a trip to the mall. Each Westfield location will have a minimum of one and a maximum of 10 Uber waiting areas, according to the companies. The first location to include an “Uber lounge,” which will be part of a $1 billion renovation of the shopping center set for this fall, will be the Westfield Century City mall in Los Angeles.
