What about the eco trend? Single-serve coffee creating lots more waste

When two competing trends – one about environmentalism and the other about making life easier – are in opposition to one another, which one wins? The answer isn't always easy, but in this case we are seeing a huge rise in the usage of single-serve coffee pods, from companies as diverse as Nespresso and Starbucks, to the detriment of the environment, which is being inundated with untold millions of little plastic pods. According to the East Bay Express, a paper out of Oakland, California, the coffee pod trend is creating a substantial amount of waste in landfills, oceans and beyond. Will there be an green-guilt backlash? Our prediction is that we will soon be seeing coffee pods in biodegradable packaging.
