Wine sellers continue to court more casual drinkers
Regular WikiTrends readers have seen a progression in the way wine is being sold and marketed around the world, trending downwards to appeal to a less-snobbish clientele. Even in France, the spiritual home of fine wine, we have seen wine sold in cans and even cola-flavored wine. Now at least two US-based companies are offering premium wines the same packages that are usually used for single-serve juice. For consumers who can get over the fact that there is no cork and bottle, the packaging offers several advantages: It's portable, unbreakable and easy to open without a corkscrew. From a trends perspective, however, we see it fitting into a new way of positioning wine that is less fussy, more practical and in tune with our itinerant lifestyles.
